Role
The key purpose of Catherine’s role is to help develop and implement policies across the Humanities Division in relation to a range of personnel issues, and to act as an expert adviser to faculties and to colleagues in the Humanities Divisional office, including the Head of the Humanities Division.
Catherine is responsible for managing and providing administrative support for a range of personnel exercises and activities for the Humanities Division, including:
- Twice-termly release of post exercises
- Sending out reminders to faculties of deadlines to submit requests to fill vacant posts or create new posts)
- Servicing the Humanities Personnel Panel, including corresponding with faculties about additional information requirements and Panel decisions
- Drafting relevant sections of reports of the Humanities Planning and Resources Committee meetings, and informing faculties of Committee decisions.
- Annually: inform colleges of academic posts that have been released for filling
- Arranging for college associations for Associate Professorships, where necessary, e.g. for new posts
- Recognition of Distinction (RoD) exercises
- Professorial Distinction Awards (PDA)
- Reward and Recognition exercises
- Induction – personnel aspects – for new Faculty Board Chairs and administrators
- Astor Visiting Professorships scheme (Applications are invited late summer each year.)
Catherine also develops policies and procedures, and provides advice regarding Divisional aspects of:
- Professorial recruitment
- Academic retention cases, including SAP applications
- Conversion of academic post types
- EJRA requests
- Variation of Duties and flexible working requests
- Visas and work permits
- Securing college associations for new posts
- Use of HRIS
- Casual contracts, e.g. for casuals employed by TORCH and Divisional Training team
Catherine represents the Division on various working groups (e.g. Immigration User Group, and regularly liaises with a range of colleagues, including the Humanities HR Business Partner, Senior Appointments Panel, and Faculty Board Chairs and Administrators.
Reception and Facilities Management team
- Catherine is the line manager of the two part-time receptionists of Radcliffe Humanities
- She liaises with the ROQ Facilities Management Team and attends the Radcliffe Humanities Building Committee on behalf of the Humanities Divisional Office.
